SoKal for Gemini: The Shared Calendar for Friends
Gemini calendar integration
SoKal is a shared calendar for you and your friends. Add it to Gemini as a custom app and you can ask Gemini about your week and what a friend is up to, at the detail each friend already shares with you on SoKal. Gemini uses SoKal when you call it with @SoKal.
Connect Gemini to my calendar
You need a SoKal account (free, in the app or at sokal.app) and Gemini on the web.
- Go to gemini.google.com and open Customize, then Connectors, then Custom apps.
- Click Add a custom app and enter
https://mcp.sokal.app. Leave Client ID and Client secret blank. - A SoKal page opens. Sign in with your phone number, with Google, or with your email and password. Signed up with Apple? Apple sign-in isn't on this page, so first verify your phone number in the SoKal app (your profile, then Edit profile, then Phone numbers), then sign in here with that number.
- Choose View only or View and edit, then Allow.
- Back in Gemini, SoKal shows under Custom apps with the handle @SoKal.
Use SoKal in a chat
Gemini only uses SoKal when you call it. Start your prompt with @SoKal, or open the ⋯ menu on the connector and choose Use now. Once SoKal is connected on the web, you can use it in the Gemini app on your phone too.
Who can add custom apps
Google sets these rules for custom apps in Gemini:
- You're 18 or over and in the US.
- You're signed in to Gemini with a personal Google Account. Work and school accounts can't add custom apps for now.
- Gemini's Keep Activity setting is on. Custom apps don't work with it off.
- Custom apps are available in English.
- You add custom apps on the web. After that they work in the Gemini mobile app as well.
Things to ask Gemini
- "@SoKal What's on my calendar this week?"
- "@SoKal What's Maya up to this weekend?"
What Gemini can't do with SoKal
- See details your friends don't share with you. Those show as "Busy".
- See the details of your friends' Google Calendar or Outlook events. Those always show as "Busy".
- Invite anyone who isn't your friend on SoKal, or text phone numbers.
- Delete anything or tell anyone without asking you first.
Your Gemini activity
SoKal doesn't use your calendar to train AI models. Because custom apps need Keep Activity on, what SoKal returns in a Gemini chat is part of your Gemini activity, which Google handles under its own policies. See Google's Gemini Apps Privacy Hub.
Disconnect
In Gemini, open Customize, then Connectors, choose SoKal and select Disconnect. To remove it completely, choose More details, then Remove app, which also unlinks it from your Google Account. You can also remove it from Connected apps in SoKal's settings on the web, which ends its access straight away.
