SoKal 1.2 is out today on iPhone, iPad and Android. It’s the biggest update we’ve ever shipped.

New here? SoKal is a social calendar: your real calendar, with your friends in it. It syncs with the Google, Apple or Outlook calendar you already use, shows you when friends are free and who’s in town, and lets you join the plans they open up.

Here’s what’s new.

Ready for iPhone Duo on day one

iPhone Duo arrives Wednesday, and SoKal is ready for it. Fold it, flip it, open it up. Your calendar and your social life sit side by side across both screens. Event details, profiles and notifications use the whole display, and sheets open on the side you tapped.

We wrote more about building for Duo here: SoKal on iPhone Duo.

A fresh look

We redesigned the whole app. Plans in your feed show who’s going at a glance. Event details open with a big header, a map and the weather. Map silhouettes are richer everywhere. There’s also a new icon and two new themes, Sand and Sage.

Make events by talking

Double-tap the add button and say your plan. “Coffee with Olivia Saturday at 10.” SoKal builds the event and adds your friends. You can also type it in plain words. This one is in beta, and it’s already pretty good.

Places with history

See how many friends have been somewhere before and who’s a regular. Your outings show up on the map too, so your city fills in as you go.

New ways to see your days

Multi-day view on iPhone puts two days side by side. Swipe to move one day at a time. Week view is here on iPad and iPhone Duo.

Friends on the move

A new Trips row in Network shows who’s traveling right now and who’s headed your way.

You choose what friends see

When you accept a friend request, you pick exactly which kinds of plans they can see. Linking a calendar now spells out what changes and what stays private.

Online events

Add a meeting, ticket or event link to any plan, so friends know exactly where to join.

Bigger and better on iPad

Text, cards, sheets and the Travel screen are bigger and easier to read, with layouts built for both portrait and landscape.

Faster everywhere

Your calendar opens sooner, photos load quicker, and events and profiles open snappier.

Less clutter

We removed the leaderboard. SoKal is about your plans and your people, and that’s where we want the focus.
